Alpina Lodge, Val d’Isere, France
by Julie Baxter | February 2017
"This is a well located, user-friendly home-from-home in the heart of the Val d’Isere resort and with all the practical facilities wintersports travellers require. Traditional style with great views and just minutes from access points to 300km of slopes for all abilities, plus free ride routes and snow park."
THE BACKGROUND: This is a four-star traditional-style mountain property with 44 fully-equipped apartments all with balcony looking out to the Face de Bellevarde, the resort’s most famous run. The property is focused on recycling, energy saving and Eco Label accreditation and accommodation ranges from studios to three bedroom apartments.
THE LOCATION: Great! Right in the heart of the town and an easy walk from the Solais and Olympic lifts and key slopes, shops and restaurants. A regular free bus departs every five minutes at peak times from closeby and also connects to slopes at either end of the resort.
THE ROOM: My one-bedroom apartment had a large living room, bathroom (with double sink unit, bath and great shower), separate toilet and well-equipped kitchen. The living area included dining table and two truckle beds as sofas that convert to three additional single beds.
RESTAURANTS/BARS: The property has no restaurant – as all rooms include self-catering facilities - but is surrounded by many restaurants and bars, a fabulous bakery and well-stocked supermarket. There is a small comfy lounge area with books to borrow (open only when reception is open (8.30-12am and 3-7pm) where a light breakfast can be ordered for those who do not wish to self cater.
FACILITIES: There are two entrances, one via a welcoming reception, the other via the boot room for off-loading of skis etc in a secure and numbered storage cupboard.
THE RATES: A week’s stay costs from £291pp (£581 total) for a self-catering studio apartment sleeping two people.
