Anantara The Palm Resort

by Lisa Merrigan | June 2016

"This is the perfect place for water babies! All the glamour and luxury that you would expect from a hotel on the Palm but combined with a sense of tranquillity once you step inside. Great location and a truly spectacular place for those in search of something different in Dubai. EXCELLENT."

THE BACKGROUND: This hotel is part of the Anantara Group, which has grown to 35 properties since the first opening in 2001 in Hua Hin. These five star properties are located in the city, island and desert settings across Asia, The Middle East, Indian Ocean and Africa.

THE LOCATION: Located on Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah island, 40km from airport and close to attractions such as the Burj Khalifa just 23km from the resort, Aqua Venture waterpark, a 15 min drive away, and Dubai International Airport, 40km – this hotel puts your client in the heart of Dubai’s buzz. Also this hotel has the only over water villas in the UAE!

THE ROOM: My Premier Lagoon Access room gave me direct access, via steps from my private deck, into the inviting waters of the pool (the resort has 10,000 square metres of pool space!). The room decor was clean and Asian-styled, with dark wooden floors, white linens, striking headboards and plush sofas. Facilities included a 42-inch plasma TV , Nespresso coffee maker, Elemis amenities, and complimentary wifi. I particularly loved the en suite which had a sunken bath plus a rainforest shower!

RESTAURANTS/BARS: Crescendo serves food from around the world, from Wagyu burgers to banana splits, and guests can enjoy it al fresco overlooking the swimming pool. Quirky Mekong offers pan-Asian cuisine with converted tuk-tuks acting as dining spaces. There is also grilled seafood and Mediterranean flavours at the Beach House and an Aussie experience at Bushman’s Restaurant & Bar, where boomerangs and Aboriginal drawings set the scene.

FACILITIES: 293 rooms including 33 over water villas. Private beach, watersports centre, spa, swimming pools, restaurants, bar, kids club, playground, gym, tennis courts, free wifi throughout. The signature Anantara Spa has 18 treatment rooms and offers various wellness techniques, such as Thai massage, salt inhalation, Thalassotherapy and Ayurveda. There is a Turkish hamam, liquid sound pool and Jacuzzi.

THE RATES: Double rooms from £221.71 (AED1,175), including tax at 20 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional room tax of AED20.00 per room per night on check-out.
