Bon Sol Mallorca

by Richard Williams | October 2015

"This is a family-oriented hotel relying on a warm welcome and old-fashioned personal service. While good for families, with kids’ club, playground and paddling pool, there is also an adults-only area and sun terrace. Ideal as a comfortable base from which to explore the island, and very handy for shopping and sightseeing in Palma."

THE BACKGROUND: Bon Sol is family owned and run, and part of the Reis de Mallorca, a group of small, independent hotels notable for their good food and distinctive Mallorcan character.

THE LOCATION: Situated just a few miles to the west of the island’s capital, Palma, Bon Sol is set on a forested clifftop location with lifts down to its own private beach. Three other sandy beaches are within a short walk. A bus from the front door of the hotel takes you into Palma, and guests are just 15 minutes’ drive from the island’s airport.

THE ROOM: There are 74 rooms and 19 suites in the main hotel, and 53 beach villas. My room was stylish, with high ceilings, comfortable chairs and elegant period furniture.

KEY FACILITIES: The hotel is set up as a resort and spa and has facilities to suit all family members. There are three pools, numerous sun terraces with sun-loungers and sunshades, two tennis and one squash court, mini-golf, table tennis and pool table. The spa has a Finnish sauna, a lower-temperature sanarium, Jacuzzi, steam room, fitness and relaxation rooms.

THE RESTAURANTS/BARS: Breakfast is taken in the Winter Garden, overlooking the main pool and lunch can be taken there or at the Beach Restaurant from May to October. The main restaurant ‘Las Antorchas’ is in a large dark-beamed Mallorcan dining room, and serves typical local cuisine or international specialities from the à la carte menu.

THE RATES: Price per person per night, sharing a double room, is from 102 to 146 euros according to the season.
