Hyatt City of Dreams Manila

Philippines

by Steve Thompson | March 2016

The hotel has a great location for a short Manila stopover en route to the islands as it is very near to the airport but it is also only a cheap taxi ride into the city. Even though the hotel is in the middle of a casino complex, there are still plenty of places to escape to and relax. If your client does want a gamble, the casino is always open for a flutter - ideal during the night when the jetlag starts to kick in!

THE BACKGROUND: The Hyatt City of Dreams Manila is a great base from which to explore Manila without feeling the hustle and bustle of what is a big, busy, polluted, but exciting metropolis.

THE LOCATION: It is set in the new suburb, City Of Dreams, Manila’s answer to Las Vegas but on a smaller scale (for now) with four more huge developments coming in the next few years. Traffic can be bad in Manila but as taxis are cheap trips from here to the sights, shops or restaurants never cost more than a few pounds.

THE ROOM: My 50-square-metre club room, with high-speed internet, was chic in style with modern decor in earth and wood tones. It had great views of the pool area and gardens, and came with a minimalist bathroom which included a bathtub and walk-in shower. It also came with access to the Club Lounge, an exclusive space that offered complimentary snacks all day and complimentary pre-dinner drinks.

RESTAURANTS/BARS: Within the hotel itself there are two wining and dining establishments selling authentic local and international cuisine. However, within the City of Dreams area there are around 20 restaurants and bars catering for all tastes and budgets. For those who like a bit of celebrity spotting, the Pangaea and Chaos bars are among those renowned as hotspots for the ‘beautiful people’ of Manila.

FACILITIES: The hotel has an outdoor pool set in landscaped gardens, a large fitness centre with all the latest equipment and a beauty salon for hair, makeup and nails. There is also DreamPlay which is the world’s first family centre from DreamWorks.

THE RATES: Rates start from £80 per night.
