JA Ocean View, Dubai

by Lisa Merrigan | July/August 2016

"This is a stylish and contemporary hotel with comfortable rooms and modern facilities. It is a superb choice for an unforgettable Dubai stay. Excellent!"

THE BACKGROUND: The hotel is part of the JA Resorts & Hotels portfolio of luxury properties in Dubai, which also includes the JA Jebel Ali Beach Hotel, JA Palm Tree Court and the JA Oasis Beach Tower apartments. Each is designed to offer distinctive accommodation while reflecting the group’s Arabian heritage.

THE LOCATION: Set on Jumeirah Beach, along The Walk, in the Dubai Marina area this modern high-rise hotel is a two-minute walk from the beach, 10 minutes from Ibn Battuta Mall and 20 minutes from the indoor mountain sports centre of Ski Dubai and Mall of the Emirates. There are also more than 300 restaurants, cafes and shops easily accessible along The Walk, including those located in the new Beach Mall located opposite.

THE ROOM: The hotel has 342 rooms in five different room types. My Superior Sea View Room, on the sixth floor, was a spacious 38sqm. Its balcony ensured impressive views of the beach and the blue waters of the Arabian Gulf. The décor was a contemporary blue, green and white, and facilities included a sofabed, 47-inch TV. Nespresso coffee maker and complimentary wifi. My favourite extra was the pillow menu deigned to ensure that if your pillow isn’t quite to your liking you have other options to order to maximise your night’s sleep! The bathroom was a decent size and included a range of Elemis amenities.

FACILITIES: The infinity-edged pool had stunning sea views and direct access to the beach, and the brand-new JA Wibit Waterpark, located at the JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort, can be accessed by hotel guests via a complimentary shuttle service. There was also a hairdressing salon, Elemis spa and gym.

RESTAURANTS/BARS: Tea, coffee and light snacks are served in the Italian Café Via (open 24 hours), and Le Rivage is a French brasserie-style restaurant. The poolside café, The Deck, overlooks the sea and serves cocktails and light snacks while the Sehr Al Bahr restaurant offers Arabic mezze, fresh grills and live entertainment during the winter months. The Girders pub is a buzzing spot with great drinks deals, live sports channels, music and budget brunches as well as a small, atmospheric terrace garden.

THE RATES: Nightly rates start from £70, for a standard room in August 2016..
