Maison Vy Hoi An, Vietnam
by Richard Williams | December 2016
"This is a well-run boutique hotel with some interesting personal touches. The footbaths sound quirky but are also great for footsore explorers. The food is hand-prepared and very special. The service is smiley and pretty sound. It is good value for money."
THE BACKGROUND: International chef Ms Vy has set up three restaurants in historic Hoi An, Central Vietnam. Two include cookery schools, giving a hands-on approach to the subtle mysteries of Vietnamese cuisine. Ms Vy has also produced this boutique hotel.
THE LOCATION: The hotel is about ten minutes’ walk from the city’s historic centre. Cua Dai beach is within 4km and An Bang beach 6km. The historic Cham temple site of My Son is an hour away. The hotel is 24km from Da Nang airport, with a limousine service available.
THE ROOM: The rooms are newly-furnished in modern minimalist style, with some repro Oriental furniture in dark wood. Our deluxe double room had a comfortable bed and a great shower but no bath.
