"An outstanding hotel just perfect for a winter or summer stay. Its situation overlooking Lake Louise and the mountains is memorable and the huge grounds offer endless opportunities for walks or more strenuous activity. Anyone travelling to this part of Alberta should be persuaded to spend at least a couple of nights here."

THE BACKGROUND: One of Canada’s renowned old Canadian Pacific grand hotels, first open in 1892 and a Fairmont since 1999. Its 554 rooms fan out in two wings from the main central building and the whole hotel is littered with old photographs.Some 215 rooms were renovated in 2013, along with the front lobby and Lakeview Lounge, and scheduled for completion before summer are 67 newly-refurbished guestrooms.

THE LOCATION: Simply stunning, a mile high in the heart of the Banff National Park on the shores of Lake Louise and the mountains beyond. It's 45 minutes west of Banff, a couple of hours from Calgary and is also served by the seasonal Rocky Mountaineer rail service.

THE ROOM: Spacious and well furnished the Deluxe Lakeview room in the Mt. Temple wing offered spectacular views of the snow-covered lake and mountains. All guest rooms offer cable TV, coffee maker and kettle, hair dryer, and refreshment centre. The huge bathroom has a separate bath and shower, twin basins and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries.

KEY FACILITIES: There’s an entire shopping arcade plus a 3,000 sq ft spa. Chateau Lake Louise is the perfect base for every year-round activity imaginable. The hotel has a ski hire shop and aside from downhill and cross-country skiing there’s snowshoeing, ice skating on Lake Louise, dog sledding, sleigh rides etc. plus summer activities like hiking, canoeing, mountain biking and wildlife tours.

THE RESTAURANT/BARS: A choice of six dining outlets covers every requirement from the 24-hour Chateau Deli through to the Four Diamond Fairview Dining Room. Other options are the wood-panelled Walliser Stube which specializes in a dozen signature fondues and Poppy Brasserie where breakfast is served.
