Focus on... WestJet’s new Dreamliner service to Calgary
By Laura Gelder – January 2019 – 2 minute read
Established in 1996, this young airline’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the latest in its evolving service. With smoother ride technology and self-dimming windows, the new service is inspired by Canada itself with a colour palette of blues, greys and warm hues reminiscent of alpine lakes, aurora shades and Canadian summers.
The Dreamliner service will fly daily between Gatwick and Calgary from April 2019 (lunch time departures from Gatwick and daily evening departures from Calgary arriving the next day) and three-times-weekly between Dublin and Calgary from June 2019 (departing Ireland 13.45 and arriving 15.05 and leaving Calgary 20.45 and arriving the next day at 11.38).
Economy and Premium Economy
Economy passengers enjoy inflight entertainment, connectivity and device charging at each seat with a 12-inch touch screen and 35-inch seat pitch as well as complimentary food and beverages on all Dreamliner routes. Premium Economy passengers benefit from extra space in bigger seats located in a separate cabin. They also enjoy an elevated meal service with a choice of main and dessert, and access to a self-serve area with snacks and drinks.
Travellers can expect private pods with lie-flat seats offering four-way lumbar support, direct aisle access and custom-designed pillows and blankets plus unique fully extendable privacy screens. The seat pitch is 46 inches with a seat width of 22 inches.
Champagne is served to customers on boarding and the dine anytime service offers flyers flexibility and choice and a restaurant-style menu including fine Canadian and international wines and meals for special dietary requirements.
Inflight entertainment comes from an 18.5 inch touch screen monitor with interactive touchscreen controls which gives access to hundreds of hours of movies and TV episodes. There’s also internet access (for a fee), video games for every age range, 10 channels of music and a selection of magazines. The seat comes with active noise-cancelling headphones and an AC power outlet and USB port.
Business Class customers also get an amenity case with nourishing skin care products from top Canadian brands, priority check-in, boarding and baggage, two checked bags, lounge access and can earn WestJet Rewards.
