Book tickets to Saudi Arabia’s most exclusive festival

by Jessica Pook

Tickets have today (September 19) been released for the Winter in Tantora Festival – a music event held in historic AlUla, Saudi Arabia.

The concert, starting December 19 this year and running until March 7, 2020, is the latest initiative to attract visitors to Saudi Arabia as the country works towards its goal of becoming a ‘top tourism destination’.

Guests will stay in five-star luxury throughout the duration of the event and enjoy spa facilities, Michelin star meals and access to the surrounding historical sites of AlUla, described as one of the world’s greatest 'undiscovered' archeological and historical wonders.

Festivalgoers can expect 12 weeks of high-profile acts, including Lionel Richie and Enrique Iglesias; Michelin star pop-up restaurants; and cultural events with performances held in a custom-built ‘mirror’ stadium, reflecting the desert landscape.

AlUla dates back thousands of years and still shows evidence of ancient civilisations in sandstone rock inscriptions and ancient forts that are older than the pyramids. The archeological site of Mada’in Salih, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built by the same civilisation as Petra’s Treasury in Jordan but has far fewer tourists.

Clients can also trek past rock formations, through  canyons and explore desert valleys; take a camel ride to a desert camp to sleep under the stars or enjoy the landscape via a jeep tour or a hot air balloon ride.

The concert guests will be among the first to experience the site, which will open to consumers as a year-round destination from October 2020.

Philip Jones, Chief DMO for the Royal Commission of AlUla said: "The Winter at Tantora Festival in AlUla is a unique opportunity for visitors to get a sneak peek at the amazing cultural and historical treasures of Northern Arabia before it opens to the public in October of 2020."

"We have an amazing line-up of performers ranging from Enrique Iglesias to Andrea Bocelli, all limited to 500 guests per weekend along with some of the top chefs in the world preparing their signature dishes... it’s truly a once in a lifetime opportunity."
