Off-season ‘secrets’ from Turquoise
by Steve Hartridge
Turquoise Holidays is highlighting ‘Secret Seasons’ around the world in its latest brochure.
Designed for clients looking to beat the crowds, still get glorious weather but pay less, the operator’s ‘Little Black Book’ offers a month-by-month guide of where to go and when to grab the best deal from March through to October.
For example, Langkawi, Malaysia, is suggested in March and April for its near-guaranteed sunshine, with occasional afternoon rains and thundershowers. These islets off the western coast of Malaysia are almost deserted during these months. The operator has seven nights at The Ritz Carlton Langkawi from £1,675pp – a saving of around £1,200 over other times of the year. Guests stay in a Rainforest Deluxe Room on a B&B basis including international flights and private transfers.
The Caribbean is suggested from July to early September. Turquoise says: “With the ‘secret season’ in the Caribbean largely over the school holidays, this is the perfect time to scoop a deal and take the family too. The weather is mostly a perfect mix of sunshine and showers, with slightly cooler temperatures, ideal for kids and at bargain prices.”
Seven nights at Blue Waters, Antigua start from £6,250 for a family of two adults and two children under 12. Accommodation is in two Deluxe Beachfront rooms on a B&B basis, and the deal includes flights and transfers.
Off-peak in Mauritius runs from May – July, a time that offers great value, particularly for couples whilst most families are busy with school. “The weather is slightly cooler, and guests can delight in quieter hotels and quieter excursions, avoiding the crowds,” the operator says.
Seven nights at Heritage le Telfair (pictured) in a Garden View Suite on a B&B basis is from £1.669pp, with flights and private transfers.
October is a shoulder season for tourism in South Africa, which means fewer tourists, easier driving and lower prices. And with the end of the dry season comes excellent game viewing with animals congregating at watering holes and babies being born. The coast offers beach holidays weather and the tail end of the whale-viewing season in the Western Cape.
A South Africa and Mauritius twin-centre holiday, with three nights at Sanctuary Makanyane, in Madikwe Private Game Reserve in South Africa, on an all-inclusive basis (all meals and house drinks plus soft drinks) and eight nights at The Oberoi Mauritius on a B&B basis, start from £3,500pp. The deal includes all game drives, return transfers from Johannesburg, and international flights – but must be booked by June 30.
